ATHENS 1600 is a game dealing with the DREAM. An interrogation concerning the invisible and how it manifests itself. The game is inspired by an old comedy by William Shakespeare (hereinafter WS), A Midsummer Nights Dream, which has gripped generations of players with the whirl of sentimental exchanges of which it is composed and decomposed. The comedy has been freely rewritten for ATHENS 1600 by Marco Martinelli (hereinafter MM), with the subtitle rewriting on down ". The pieces used for the game, as we shall see, are pretty much those already found in WS, but with distancing, leaps of humour, repetitions and falls that make them suitable for stripping the flesh from our time. Its a game thats supposed to be diverting, with the use of comic, surreal and farce-like registers. But take care! The word diversion should be understood in its etymological depth, as distancing, distracting". In ATHENS 1600 you are diverted out of the way, you get lost. If the player experiences disturbing feelings of disorientation, he shouldnt worry about it but rather cheer up: its the spirit of the game!

Five flashes to recount LA MANO (The Hand), a performance which continues the Albe’s research into a theatre founded on the alchemy of languages: space, music, lights, words and, at the centre of everything, a voice-body that sings of suffering and revolt. Setting out from Luca Doninelli’s novel of the same name (published by Garzanti), Martinelli creates a sort of opera libretto to an original music score by Luigi Ceccarelli. Ermanna Montanari gives flesh to the music, varying the rhythms, intonations and timbres, now peaceful, now furious, now delirious, of the song of Isis, the main character. Lighting by Vincent Longuemare, sets by Edoardo Sanchi. Onstage with Ermanna Montanari, Roberto Magnani, a silent and disturbing ghost.

In June 2005 Teatro delle Albe has restaged his historic show I Polacchi at the MCA, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago, with a new chorus of "palcontents" from the african district of the city. MIGHTY MIGHTY UBU, starting from the musical suggestions of the show, gives a "pataphysic" picture of the experience. MIGHTY MIGHTY UBU

In 1998 the Teatro delle Albe puts on stage the show I Polacchi from Ubu the king by Alfred Jarry, a text that is a symbol in the theater of the XX century. Marco Martinelli decides to go back to the genesis of the original text by Jarry. For this reason he chose some teen-agers as the puppeteers of the various masks who build the bloodthirsty and grotesque architecture of the story. Museum Historiae Ubuniversalis is not the filmed resumption of I Polacchi but its a tribute to his dramaturgy, a real amused video-radiography of the historical show by Teatro delle Albe, reduced to a skeleton.

Marco Martinelli is the Artistic director of Arrevuoto, a theatre project by Mercadante-Teatro Stabile di Napoli, addressed to Neaples and Scampia adolescents. By the accountings of the Neapolitans and Rom youngsters, Ubu sotto tiro shows the spark threw out by the imagination of those contemporary Punch (used to live in districts between camorra and garbage), and Father Ubu, the mask of Jarrys Ubu the king, the symbol of arrogance and power.
